Start with the right profile
Set the allergies, intolerances, and dietary preferences you want the app to check. SafeBite also lets you specify ingredients to avoid. Review the selected profile before scanning, especially if you use different profiles for members of your household.
The scan is only as relevant as the information you give it. A preference that is missing from the profile will not be a reliable basis for reviewing a result.
Capture the full ingredient list
Point the camera at a readable label and make sure important text is not cut off by the frame, a fold, or glare. Include any allergen statements that appear separately from the ingredients. If text is obscured, check the packaging directly rather than relying on the scan.
SafeBite can help interpret unfamiliar ingredient names and labels in different languages. Use that explanation to identify what needs closer attention, then compare it with the actual package.
Treat the result as something to verify
A scan may highlight possible allergens, unfamiliar names, or warnings worth reviewing. AI can misread text or miss an ingredient, and a photograph cannot establish how food was prepared. A reassuring result is not a guarantee of safety.
Always read the original label and confirm uncertainty with the manufacturer or restaurant. The FDA also advises people with food allergies to read food labels. Follow the guidance given by your healthcare professional for your own allergy needs.
Use menu scans to prepare questions
A menu description is rarely a complete ingredient list. SafeBite can help you identify questions to ask, but it cannot verify a kitchen’s ingredients or preparation practices. Speak directly with restaurant staff before making a decision.
SafeBite is available on the App Store. Review its current features and subscription details in the official listing. The app is not medical advice and should never replace your established allergy precautions.
